Enrollment, Tuition, and Fees

HourglassLearning Today, Leading Tomorrow

At American Heritage of South Jordan we limit the class sizes based on the grade. While we would like to seat everyone who wants to attend our school, a preference for manageable class sizes dictates that we must often create waiting lists for several grades.

How to Enroll
Copies of the Application for Enrollment are available at the School or at this link.

The basic process for admission to American Heritage is as follows:

1. New applicants, please call the School. Waiting lists for various
grades fluctuate from year-to-year and the admission criteria
    are fairly rigorous.
2. Complete and submit the Application for Enrollment, including
the non-refundable application fee and all attachments. All
current patrons and waiting list applicants must reapply
    on an annual basis.
3. Administration will review applications and call new
applicant families to arrange an interview. Returning patrons
do not require an interview unless their child is entering the
6th grade (mandatory 6th Grade Entrance Interview for all
    students/families entering the 6th grade).
4. Once an interview is completed, administration will notify
the applicant if and when a decision has been made to admit
the applicant for an open space.

Current patrons should turn in completed enrollment application forms for all returning students before the third Monday in February. Open enrollment begins the third Tuesday in February. New patrons may turn in enrollment application forms starting the third Tuesday in February.

NOTE: Current patrons who choose to wait to apply after open enrollment begins will be given the same acceptance priority as new patrons.

Priority Acceptance Policy/Admission Criteria Return to top

Current patrons who have fulfilled their service hour commitment are given first priority. Families with children already in the School, who would like to enroll other children in the School, are given next priority. New patrons are accepted based on the following criteria (in no particular order):
• Space availability in classroom (see policy regarding Waiting Lists below)
• Strength of interview with administration
• Completed Application for Enrollment
• Academic standing (see policy regarding Academic Standing below)

Waiting Lists   Return to top

American Heritage accepts a certain number of students per class. When a class has been filled, a waiting list is created. Waiting lists are NOT first-come-first-serve; rather, when a space opens in a class, administration will choose what it believes to be the applicant (parents and child viewed together) that best fulfills the admission criteria and best personifies the core values of American Heritage. All waiting lists expire at the end of each academic year and are re-established in connection with the annual application process.

To qualify to be on the waiting list, all the requirements to enter the School must be met, including an interview with an administrator. If a space becomes available, the waiting list is reviewed and a candidate is selected.

Academic Standing   Return to top

Prior to admittance, the School reviews the academic standing of a student to avoid putting a child in a grade level for which the child is unprepared. American Heritage School does not have the resources to offer specialized academic assistance for those students who are significantly below grade level. Consequently, students who require substantial or specialized in-class help will generally not qualify for acceptance to the School. In limited circumstances, factors such as private tutoring and significant parental involvement, when taken together with other admission criteria, may result in acceptance of a student who has special needs or who is performing significantly below grade level. If a student has tested below grade level in some areas, but exhibits average or above-average performance in other areas, the student may still qualify for acceptance.

Honor Code    Return to top

All students are required to abide by the school’s Honor Code. Their parents are expected to support American Heritage of South Jordan fully in the implementation of the code. It must be read and agreed to before admittance to the School.

All students will be expected to conduct themselves in all aspects of life as Christians. They will:

1. Use good manners and polite speech. Repeated use of bad
    language will result in dismissal.
2. Treat all students with respect. Belittling or making fun of
    another student is not allowed.
3. Be honest and truthful in all dealings.
4. Accept corrections respectfully.
5. Display a good and positive attitude.
6. 5th - 12th grades must maintain a minimum of 2.0
    academic grade point average.

The Honor Code can be found in the School Handbook.

Evaluation Return to top

All new applicants (with exception of Kindergarten applicants) will either need to attach the previous year's SAT or equivalent standardized test scores. In the absence of standardized test scores, applicants will need to be tested by American Heritage. Testing will be conducted at the School on or before the first day of school attendance.
